lettering for the window - ideas

There's a place in Ashbourne who will do pre-spaced lettering in whatever size and typeface we want - might be nice to stick to Trebuchet? Next thing is, what do we want to put up there?

Would this do as our text for listings?:

Life as such

The invitation

Here's my 2c on the images we got from our collaboration on Wednesday ...
I think all the "outside looking in" images are a bit too like an advertisement for the gallery, and that the strongest two images we have are the ones from inside looking out with the Luas outside.

All I did with this one is straighten out the curve a bit.

Bearing in mind that we need to get this done this week and off to the print people by Monday (any volunteers to do that bit?), can we get the discussion going and make a decision ... sorry to nag!

Yesterday's photos

Blogger is very slow this morning, so I have uploaded the images from yesterday to Flickr instead. They are at:

http://www.flickr.com/gp/35007948@N00/Z2Lh0s

Let me know if you have any problems seeing them. They are low-res to speed up the process. Just let me know which ones you want to work with and I will e-mail them on to you.

In terms of timescale, we need to be posting the invitations to people next weekend if they are to have them a week before the opening, which means (AAARGH!!!!) the artwork will have to go to the printers on Monday next, so we have to pick our image before that.

So let's get editing!

Dear

My name is Hannah Doyle and I am co-director of the art collective 'Moxie Dublin'. We are a group of twelve visual artists all based in Dublin.
'Moxie' was formed earlier in 2006, and together as a group we create work, organise exhibitions and and promote ourselves as visual artists. We create work in many disciplines, combining the everyday with the somewhat bizzare using a wide range of mediums, including video, sound, installation, drawing, painting, performance etc.

Our debut group exhibition entitled 'Without a Parachute' will take place at the end of January 2007. The exhibition takes place in 'The Back Loft', 7/11 St. Augustine Street, Dublin 8. The show opens on the 23rd of January and will continue until the 30th of January 2007.

We will have very good media coverage including television, newspaper and magazine advertisments.
Our invites will be posted to over 1000 people, we will have a poster campaign and the exhibition will be listed on many websites that have large daily hit counts.

We will be having a preview night for our invited guests and press on the 23rd of January from 6-9pm.
I was wondering if you would like to sponsor the exhibition by providing drinks for the preview night?
We would put your company logo on posters and invitations and we would mention the brand in all press releases. We can also link your website to ours. We would greatly appreciate your support.

I look forward to hearing from you,
Best regards,

Hannah Doyle

A web site for the exhibition

It just dawned on me that we had talked about having a web site for the show, and/ore one for the group which we could keep updated on an ongoing basis, so I looked up some random URLs to see what's available:

www.lifeassuch.com or .net
www.astridlauravera.com or .net
www.astridveralaura.com or .net
www.lauraveraastrid.com or .net
www.lauraastridvera.com or .net
www.veraastridlaura.com or .net
www.veralauraastrid.com or .net
www.noexpert.net
www.letmeseetheblueoneagain.com
www.iknowwhatilike.net
www.nicebiscuits.net
www.panic-room.net

Any other ideas?

Events update

The choir i'm in, Cantando, (or about two-thirds of it) are booked for a 30-minute performance of choral music on Saturday 21st at 5.30 p.m.

Not entirely sure where we'll fit 12-14 singers and, hopefully, an audience, but hey ...

The opening

Do we need to get "someone" to open the show?

Wednesday 9 May 2007

Luas activity

I've been thinking I'd like to make a piece which uses the fact that the luas passes by and stops so regularly. Maybe for it to spell out a phrase or something. Not sure we'll see. I like the rythm of it.

Small problem

This is great Laura,

good idea with the email notification. I always forget to check blogs too.

I have a bit of a problem in that I have now been invited to one of my oldest friends weddings on the 20th of July in Galway. Obviously I think we should still go ahead, but it means I won't be there for the weekend. I'll invigilate for the other two days, needless to say. And I dont know how that will effect the events. It's a really big shame, I was looking forward to hanging out in a gallery for a while! Talk to you about it soon,

So sorry

Friday 4 May 2007

E-mail notification of blog activity

I am trying to set this up, mainly because I tend to forget to check the blog, but always check my e-mail ... if it works, you will get an e-mail whenever there is a new post (not sure about edits or comments).

If it gets annoying, let me know, and I will turn it off again!

Timetable

Great idea Vera! Here's a skeleton to get us started ...

16 May: Paid 250 euro to gallery
16 May: Took fotos/video of space
By 25 May: Write short blurb about show and forward to Jessamyn for inclusion in July/August gallery guide.
Early June: sign contract, find out who's on their mailing list and compile own list.
Mid-June: Design invitations - we should have all our events decided on before then, so they can be on the invitations. Would be good to have a good crowd for the events!
Late-June: Invitations to printers

Just before show: Pay 250 euro to gallery
Monday, July 16: Start set-up
Wednesday, July 18: Opening!!! What time?
Monday, July 23: Take down show

Keep adding stuff in as you think of it ...

Editing posts

Looks like I can only edit my own post

LB says:

Sorry folks - just typical: i set it up and lose all internet access for two days!

OK - the main problem with posting I think is that the settings for invitees should have defaulted to ADMIN, but were set to GUEST. But we are all ADMIN now, so should be OK to edit.

Mind you, maybe you're right Vera, and commenting would be the way to go ...

hello

uaaargggg- don t know how this works! will need a few days to get my head around blog and show!- still freakin out a bit
Vera had a good idea yesterday about making a timetable so that time doesn't run away with us. This would be a good place to put that too i think.

Tuesday 1 May 2007

So we got us a venue ...

... and now we got us a blog/collaboration space/whatever. I hope y'all got the invitations to authorship. I've never set up a multi-author blog before, but it seems straightforward enough, as long as you have a Google identity.

Sure we can give it a go, and if it isn't useful, we can delete the lot.

In my head, a way it might work would be that we create new posts for new ideas, and edit existing posts to add new material on an existing topic. For example, say we start a post containing a list of ideas for events we might have during the show (I'll make one in a minute and create a link to it in the sidebar). When you have an idea to add to the list, just edit that post. Does that make sense? Maybe not. Anyway, we'll see how it works as we go along. We can post photos of the venue, details we get from Jessamyn and Aideen, and so on as well, if that turns out to be useful to us.

Anyway, humour me for now - it makes me feel like I'm contributing!

Sponsorship ideas

So far, all I remember is "talk to Hannah" ...

Possible events during the show

This is what I remember of our conversation today. Please edit away and add on new stuff.

Balloons
Teatime
Singing - individual and group
DJ
Live instrumentalists
Coffee morning

It would be good to have something around 5 or 6 on Saturday - when people who might have been in town anyway would be thinking of going home.

Choir-wise, we will be on holidays from early June, but if I ask in the next couple of weeks, we might be able to get enough bodies together for a short performance. What they would do would be determined by the number of people available, but it's a good sound. Whaddya think? Is choral music too "establishment" for us or what?
